March 23rd Holiday
NEAR MISS DAY
On this day in 1989 a large asteroid passed within 500,000 miles of Earth. While this sounds like a large distance, according to NASA it was a pretty close call. They stated that ‘impact would have equaled the strength of 40,000 hydrogen bombs, created a crater the size of the District of Columbia and devastated everything for 100 miles in all directions.’
So, technically it wasn’t a near miss, it was a near hit. Think about it, give it a second to process….get it now? To celebrate today’s holiday, I thought about some near misses in my own life. Things that could have changed the course of everything. I almost went to Churchill rather than Franklin for high school. If I would have done that I would have an entirely different group of friends and most likely never would have started dating Rich. That is a pretty big one. Here’s another: I happened to go over to my friend Rachel’s house right after I graduated from college and met her Godmother, Lynne, who mentioned her company was hiring. She gave me her card, I submitted my resume and I am still working for that same company to this day. I actually got the job offer the day I was cleaning out my college apartment. Lastly, let’s not forget the many times I have escaped possible car accidents in my life. Hey, I admit I’m not the greatest driver. So many things, big and small, can completely change the entire direction of one’s life. It is crazy to think about where I would be if I had made a few different choices. I believe that everything happens for a reason though and one’s true fate will always find them. It is still fun to think about though.
Total Cost to Celebrate: $0
Song of the Day:
I had to go with the Armageddon theme song, it just fit too perfectly:
P.S. – I can’t decide if Steven Tyler is getting better or worse looking with age…hmmm….
