December 23rd Holiday

For those of you that are not familiar with Festivus, I will offer a short history. It all began on one of the best sitcoms ever, Seinfeld. George’s dad decided to create a new holiday after becoming jaded with how commercialized Christmas had become. The real origin of Festivus actually stems from the O’Keefe family tradition. One of the O’Keefe children was a writer for Seinfeld and he adapted the holiday for the show. It was a success. Many people celebrate it now, it’s a Festivus for the rest of us! There are a few things that happen on Festivus. First, you have your Festivus pole, it requires no decoration:

Next we have the Airing of Grievances. This is where you tell everyone at Festivus dinner how they have disappointed you throughout the past year. We decided not to participate in this portion as it seemed just a tad bit mean-spirited (ya think?). Then, you have the Feats of Strength. The head of the household challenges someone to a wrestling match. Festivus is not over until the head of household has been pinned:

Lastly, there is the Festivus Miracle. We had a few Festivus Miracles during our celebration actually. The biggest one was that it snowed. I didn’t find this to be all that miraculous, but a lot of other people were quite thrilled about it. To have a little more fun with this holiday, we decided to organize a fun-filled bar night for all our friends. I took a zillion pictures but I still didn’t manage to get shots of everyone that was there. This is my first time experimenting with the slideshow function, let me know how you like it:

Thanks to everyone who came out to our Festivus party. We had a great time and it was extra special getting to see all our friends during the holidays.

Total Cost to Celebrate: $0 – I didn’t have to buy anything special for today’s holiday…we already had the pole.
