BETTY BOOP DAY
Today marks the date in history when Betty Boop first made her appearance, it was 1930. She has been regarded as the first and most famous animated sex symbol. Betty Boop began as a caricature of a popular singer back then, Helen Kane. She was first drawn as a sort of French poodle/human hybrid. Betty became what she is today in 1932. While Ms. Boop was in a lot of tv shows, movies and comic strips back in the day, her merchandising market has far exceeded her exposure in films. I looked around for Betty Boop stuff and basically found anything you could possibly imagine. Earrings, pillow cases, clocks, you name it. I decided to get something that I would actually use to celebrate today’s holiday. I purchased this cutesy shoppers tote:
Now I can be cute AND save the environment. Plus it has Betty Boop’s dog, Pudgy, on it and that makes it twice as nice. As a final note, I did not even consider dressing up as Betty Boop today….she is a tad bit too daring with her clothing choices (or lack thereof).
Total Cost to Celebrate: $7
Veep Day is a celebration of the presidential succession provisions in the Constitution. On this day in 1974, Vice President Gerald Ford became the President after the resignation of Richard Nixon. I wasn’t really sure how I was supposed to celebrate this holiday. Hmmm……my best idea was to dig up some fun facts about our current Vice President, Joe Biden:
Well, we can all see from this picture that he is pretty excitable. Some other interesting things about Mr. Vice President:
- He has been a Senator since the age of 30, the earliest constitutional age allowable.
- Shortly after being elected to the Senate, his first wife and their infant child were killed in a car accident.
- In 1988 he nearly died from a brain aneurysm.
- For many years he commuted to D.C. from Wilmington, Delaware. The one-way trip takes 80 minutes and he became very friendly with the Amtrak staff and held an annual Christmas dinner for them.
- His middle name is Robinette.
There are also plenty of the usual political bloopers of Joe Biden saying funny and inappropriate things. I know that anyone in the public eye who is constantly being recorded is going to have a slip up every now and then. Joe Biden seems like he is pretty laid back though and an all-around decent human being. I honestly knew nothing about him before today. Shows how well I research my voting choices…..

Clip of the Day:
Betty Boop’s cameo in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This was her first theatrical appearance after a 50 year hiatus, that’s a looooong time. She’s still rocking it!
P.S. – Who’s hotter – Betty Boop or Jessica Rabbit?
